The dinner on 23rd June is being offered by the Genuine Jersey Products Association (GJPA) and is the prelude to Jersey Tourism’s Out of the Blue Maritime Festival, celebrating Island life and our passion for the sea and all things maritime.
A mouth-watering three-course meal using primarily Genuine Jersey ingredients is being created by chef Alan Mason of Portinfer Farm Tearoom, a member of the GJPA, who is taking into account the maritime setting and the fact that the festival’s theme.
Although the final touches are still being made to his menu, he promises it will be ‘simple, fresh and tasty’.
On arrival at 7.30pm, 100 diners will be able to enjoy an aperitif in either the reception area of the Maritime Museum, with a view of St Helier Harbour, or in the Occupation Tapestry Gallery next door.
They will then move into the Globe Room to sit down and enjoy the meal, with entertainment by local guitarist Bob Vincent. Genuine Jersey’s Catherine Vint, who is organising the meal, says: “This is a unique opportunity to have a meal in a unique location. It will showcase the very best of our seafood and the skills of one our local chefs, who is a keen supporter of local produce.”
Doug Ford, head of community learning for the Jersey Heritage Trust, explains that the Globe Room is the section of the museum that focuses on the human element of Jersey’s maritime story. There are numerous paintings and artifacts, with the globe at the heart of the room, showing the voyages of people who made the sea their life and passion.
“Any museum has to be stringent about protecting its collection and this is the first time the Globe Room will have been used in this way. However, we are happy that this aptly maritime-themed meal will provide a unique setting for diners, while taking care not to affect any historical items,” Doug says.
