The Wheelhouse Pottery studio is a welcoming, creative, and supportive space for all, from curious first-timers through to experienced potters. Grounded in the belief that working with clay is both an artistic journey and a path to well-being, you are encouraged to find the meditative rhythm in the potters wheel, to turn off the noise of everyday life, and quietly focus on working with your hands and heart.

With six potter’s wheels, an electric kiln, a wide selection of tools, and a vibrant palette of glazes and underglazes, the studio has everything you need to explore clay and its endless possibilities. Offering a variety of taster classes, short courses and workshops, The Wheelhouse has something for the both the seasoned and newbe potter.

The Wheelhouse Pottery Studio, founded and run by Lucinda Wakeham, can be found on the outskirts of St Helier at First Tower, opposite the beach.

Lucinda discovered clay in summer 2019 at Highlands College. What started as an introductory class grew into a passion for creating unique ceramic pieces inspired by nature. After a few evening classes, she set up a home studio in St. Saviour and began teaching herself. In 2023 and 2024, she traveled to India for workshops, teaching and connecting with other potters and artists, before continuing her practice in Greece.

These experiences deepened her belief in the transformative power of clay, moving her to focus on the Japanese Raku firing technique. Lucinda works with raku and stoneware clays, throwing pots instinctively. Each bisque-fired piece is carefully finished—some undergo traditional Raku firing with oxides and reduction bins, while others are dipped in fermented mixtures or wrapped with organic materials in foil Saggars for unique effects.

Lucinda sets the stage and then the unpredictable dance between fire and nature unfolds. A collection of Lucinda’s work can be found on display at The Wheelhouse and can be purchased online at www.lucindawakeham.com
