West Show - Genuine Jersey Village

Date: 25/06/2010 | Posted by John Garton
The biggest ever local crafts and produce market featuring members of the Genuine Jersey Products Association is being staged as part of the Jersey Evening Post West Show.

Genuine Jersey members are familiar faces at the St Aubin and Weighbridge farmers and crafts market and other events held throughout the year but an unprecedented 28 are coming together to form a crafts and produce village market at the heart of the show being held in St Peter on 10 and 11 July.

The village market will comprise a ‘community’ of members from organic growers and fishermen to textile artists and photographers with live entertainment from local musicians and Katherine Davis, the Blues diva from Chicago, who is also appearing at Thelma's Show Lounge. She has agreed to do a two-hour acoustic slot for Genuine Jersey on Sunday from 3 till 5pm, accompanied by Philip Kozlowasky and Giles Robson of The Dirty Aces. The stalls will be laid out around an ample seating area where Islanders and visitors can relax to enjoy the local food and drink on offer.

The Chief Executive of Genuine Jersey, John Garton, said the association was delighted to have such a significant presence at the heart of the showground and also to be part of such an important event.

‘The West Show is a fantastic showcase for all that is good about Jersey and the Island’s rural traditions, past and present, which makes it the ideal event  to promote the diversity of produce and crafts produced by our members. The association’s purpose is to promote the very best the Island has to offer and where better than this truly Jersey community event which attracts thousands of Islanders and tourists,’ he said.

Matt Chatterley of the West Show Association said: ‘Since launching in 2001, Genuine Jersey has always played a part in the West Show - a part which we have been delighted to see grow to it's current scale, the Genuine Jersey Village at the West Show 2010. At the heart of the show is a commitment to preserving and promoting the rural traditions and heritage of our Island and Genuine Jersey fits perfectly into this ethos by bringing together an eclectic yet vibrant mix of local traders, producers and makers.’
