Tourist treated to a taste of Island life on arrival

Date: 01/08/2007 | Posted by John Garton
Passengers arriving into Jersey Airport are being offered a taste of fresh Genuine Jersey produce as part of a three week long promotion to show off Jersey’s finest produce to tourists and Islanders.

A Genuine Jersey stand has been erected in the arrival hall of the airport so that passengers can enjoy a glass of Jersey Dairy milk, taste a tomato or chew on some cheese as they wait for their luggage to come through.

It’s a joint initiative by the Genuine Jersey Products Association and Jersey Airport to showcase local produce during this busy period. Jersey Airport will also be putting up floral displays around the terminal which have been sourced from a Genuine Jersey member - Woodside Farm - to add some colour during the Battle of Flowers period.

Genuine Jersey Merchandising co-ordinator Catherine Vint said: “I’m so excited about having the opportunity to offer passengers with light Genuine Jersey refreshments as they wait for their luggage. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to show off some of the excellent produce from our members. At the moment I have Jersey Dairy milk, cherry tomatoes from Harmony Produce - who supply Tesco with their vine tomato Jersey Jewel and some local cheese.

Steve Read, the Assistant Director of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at Jersey Airport said: “I’m delighted to be able to offer Genuine Jersey an area of the airport and I hope it will make waiting around for luggage even more appealing! It’s nice to be able to offer tourists and locals a taste of Island life so quickly after stepping of a plane into Jersey. The Genuine Jersey stand will also be there to offer information to visitors and locals and explain the benefits of buying local ingredients which in turn support local jobs and boost the Islands economy.”
