A taste of Jersey on German television this week

Date: 25/07/2016 | Posted by John Garton

The best of Jersey food and produce will be featured on German television this week.

“Seafood Paradise Jersey” will be broadcast on commercial station Kabel 1 on Wednesday 27 July and is the first part of a three-episode series. “Jersey Snacks” and “Jersey Cheese” will be broadcast at a later date.

A film crew from Germany visited the Island in May and was hosted by Genuine Jersey Chief Executive John Garton. The team filmed and interviewed a number of Genuine Jersey Members, including Chris Le Masurier of Jersey Oyster, fisherman Don Thompson lifting lobster pots at Les Minquiers, cheese-making at Classic Herd, and Richard and Sarah Matlock of La Robeline Cider Company serving cider and sausages on Liberation Day.

The German market is an important one for the Island’s hospitality industry. Last year, almost 14,000 Germans visited Jersey and German nationals are the fourth largest visitor group after the UK, France and the other Channel Islands.

John Garton said: “Jersey has such a rich variety of produce that any visiting journalist can only taste a small sample – but it is a sample of the highest quality. The filming went very well and I’m sure that viewers in Germany will see the Island in its best light. This is another example of Genuine Jersey working closely with Visit Jersey to promote the best that the Island has to offer.”
