Genuine Jersey is delighted to launch a social media campaign for the month of June encouraging islanders to question what’s on their plate and where their produce came from. The campaign asks people to upload photos of their food, either homemade or purchased, to celebrate locally available produce and its place on our dinner plates.
The campaign, ‘What’s on my plate?’, aims to educate and inspire Islanders about the seasonal produce on their door step and ultimately, encourage more people to buy locally. One winner will be selected from those that post photos of their plates on social media, winning a £100 voucher to dine at Genuine Jersey sponsor, El Tico. Participants should use the hashtag #whatsonmyplatejersey and tag Genuine Jersey into their photos throughout the month.
John Garton, Chief Executive Officer of Genuine Jersey, said: “Genuine Jersey has been championing local produce for the last twenty years as we really are spoilt for choice on this beautiful Island when it comes to fresh, seasonal produce. We are keen to see more people make the most of our resources beyond iconic foods such as Jersey Royals and our dairy products and hopefully this campaign will highlight what is out there.”
The campaign comes as a natural pre-curser to the Jersey Eat Local Challenge, taking place in August and which Genuine Jersey are supporting.
John said: “The hope is that people can use this campaign to see where to purchase local food from and then test themselves by going fully local for a week during the Eat Local Challenge. Buying local produce not only delivers a superior taste and great nutritional value, but also offers environmental and economic benefits by supporting our local growers and farmers.”
The Genuine Jersey association is home to many local growers and farmers and is a firm advocate of quality Jersey produce. Look for the distinctive red logo when shopping for Genuine Jersey produce or ask food outlets what they are serving up that is local.
