Fifteen London, Jersey May Menu

Date: 04/05/2010 | Posted by John Garton
Genuine Jersey produce is the star attraction for the second year running at Jamie Oliver-founded restaurant Fifteen in London.

The high-profile restaurant is dishing up some of the Island’s finest fresh produce - sourced from members of the Genuine Jersey Products Association - as part of its lunch and dinner menus.  This repeat promotion is part of a growing partnership between the Island and Fifteen which will include work experience exchanges between Fifteen apprentices and Jersey catering students.

The Communication Manager at Fifteen, Wendy Richmond, said:  ‘It's always an exciting time to be celebrating Jersey produce as it really heralds the arrival of spring. We're always pleased to be celebrating Jersey Royals and cream on our menu but this promotion also gives us the opportunity to serve up some of the other produce that's less commonly available in the wider UK market. What makes it all the more exciting is that so many of us here, including the apprentice chefs, were lucky enough to meet the producers on our sourcing trip in March.’

The produce was selected during a  two-day sourcing trip made by Fifteen apprentices and staff at the end of March when they visited producers, went low-water fishing beyond Seymour Tower and helped dig the first Jersey Royals in St Ouen. The produce gracing the restaurant’s menus this month comes from a variety of local sources:

  • Jersey Royals grown by Didier Hellio

  • Joe Freire’s strawberries and asparagus

  • Salads from by Fungi Delecti

  • Jersey Dairy double cream, crème fraiche and butter

  • Chilies and courgettes from La Chasse Nuseries

  • Liberation Ale and Mary Ann Best Bitter from the Jersey Brewery

  • Cream liquor and apple brandy from La Mare Wine Estates

  • La Robeline Cider made by Richard and Jane Matlock

The Chief Executive of Genuine Jersey, John Garton, said Fifteen’s enthusiasm for local seasonal crops is a fantastic endorsement for Island producers and endorses the high quality of their produce.

‘The recent sourcing trip was a real success and a fantastic experience for the apprentices, most of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds and were seeing Jersey for the first time. Being able to meet the producers, and get involved hands-on in harvesting the produce they are now using to create dishes for diners at Fifteen, provided an invaluable insight into the food chain from source to the kitchen in London.  We are delighted that this highly beneficial partnership is a growing one which we hope to make an annual event every May,’ he said.

To encourage Islanders visiting London this month to sample the menus, the restaurant in Westland Place N1, is offering Jersey residents a free Fifteen signature gift when they make a reservation in either the Trattoria or the Dining Room.
